Egypt’s crude oil production hits two-year high as refinery output strengthens

Egypt’s crude oil production has reached its highest level in nearly two years, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi said on Saturday.

Badawi attributed the increase to the ministry’s strategy of boosting investment and domestic production after settling outstanding payments owed to investment partners, which encouraged them to inject new investments.

Speaking during a visit to efficiency enhancement projects at the Alexandria Petroleum Company (APC), the minister said higher crude oil and condensate production, together with increased supplies of domestic and imported crude to Egyptian refineries, had driven significant improvements in Egypt’s refining sector in 2026.

He said the higher throughput had enabled refineries to maximise the value of crude oil by converting it into higher-value petroleum products while making better use of their production capacity.

Badawi reviewed developments in the oil refining sector with officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC). He said improved refinery performance had contributed to higher petroleum product exports during the current year.

He added that refinery efficiency enhancement programmes supervised by EGPC had increased the production of gasoline, jet fuel and diesel, while improving operational efficiency across several refineries.

The minister also inspected the Lubricants Complex Development Project at APC, one of Egypt’s oldest refineries. He stressed that safety and safe operations remain the highest priority across all petroleum facilities.

During the visit, Badawi reviewed the project’s rehabilitation works, which have improved operational efficiency, reduced costs, and restored the production of several types of lubricants and waxes.
