Egypt’s NRC joins China–SCO Agricultural Sci-Tech Innovation Alliance
Egypt’s National Research Centre (NRC) has joined China’s SCO Agricultural Sci-Tech Innovation Alliance, expanding its international research cooperation in food security, smart agriculture, and artificial intelligence, the higher education ministry said on Wednesday.
The alliance, affiliated with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), promotes collaboration in agricultural science, digital farming, irrigation technology, technology transfer, and capacity building, according to a ministry statement.
Higher Education Minister Abdelaziz Konsowa said the membership supports Egypt’s efforts to expand international scientific cooperation and strengthen research in agriculture, food security, and artificial intelligence.
He said the ministry aims to deepen cooperation with international research institutions to promote technology transfer, strengthen research capacity, and support national development priorities.
NRC President Mamdouh Moawad said the membership would give Egyptian researchers greater access to joint international research projects and advanced agricultural technologies.
Moawad, who is also chairman of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT), said the alliance focuses on cooperation in food security, modern irrigation, seed exchange, digital agriculture, and artificial intelligence applications, particularly for arid regions.
The NRC received its membership certificate during the alliance’s annual conference in Qingdao, China.
