Egypt’s GYPTO Pharma signs MoU with Djibouti’s Bacha Group

The Egyptian Medicine City, GYPTO Pharma signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday with Djibouti’s Bacha Business Group to expand exports of Egyptian medicines into East Africa, as Egypt seeks to strengthen its pharmaceutical presence across the continent.

The agreement was signed following talks between executives of GYPTO Pharma and a Djiboutian delegation led by Hibo Bacha, CEO of Bacha Business Group, during an official visit to the Egyptian pharmaceutical complex, according to a government statement.

The partnership aims to strengthen pharmaceutical cooperation, improve access to Egyptian medicines in Djibouti and neighbouring markets, and expand the distribution of locally manufactured drugs across East Africa.

Under the agreement, the two sides will work to register and supply Egyptian pharmaceutical products in Djibouti and other priority markets in the region while exploring broader industrial cooperation.

They also discussed localising part of the pharmaceutical manufacturing process by leveraging Bacha Business Group’s logistics and industrial facilities in Djibouti, a move aimed at strengthening regional supply chains and supporting industrial integration.

Amr Mamdouh, chairman of GYPTO Pharma, said the agreement reflects Egypt’s strategy of expanding cooperation with African countries while improving access to high-quality medicines across the continent.

He said Djibouti’s strategic location and logistics infrastructure could provide Egyptian pharmaceutical products with broader access to markets across the Horn of Africa.

Bacha said the partnership would combine GYPTO Pharma’s manufacturing capabilities with Djibouti’s logistics infrastructure to support pharmaceutical supply chains and facilitate the expansion of Egyptian medicines into African markets.
