Egypt’s food exports reach 185,000 tons in one week – NFSA

Egypt exported around 185,000 tons of food products in 4,130 consignments from 19 Sept. to 25, with shipments sent to 157 countries, according to the National Food Safety Authority’s (NFSA) weekly report on Sunday.

The authority said 1,400 companies exported the consignments, which covered around 750 food products, including vegetables and tubers, fruits, preserved fruit and vegetable preparations, flour and grain products, and other food commodities.

Vegetable exports comprised 34 varieties totalling 50,000 tons. Potatoes led shipments with 15,000 tons, followed by onions with 12,000 tons and green beans with 7,000 tons.

Fruit exports covered 25 varieties totalling 30,000 tons. Strawberries ranked first at 9,000 tons, followed by mangoes at 8,000 tons and pomegranates at 6,000 tons.

Syria was the largest destination for Egyptian food exports during the week, followed by Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Madagascar, and the United States, among the 157 countries that received Egyptian food products.
