Egypt has paid over 18 billion Egyptian pounds to sugarcane farmers so far, Supply Minister Sherif Farouk told Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Sunday to follow up on farmers’ dues and discuss supply prices for strategic commodities.
During the meeting, Madbouly affirmed the government’s commitment to paying farmers’ dues for supplying sugarcane crops and following up on payments for various strategic crops.
Farouk said the state places great importance on developing the sugar industry as one of the strategic food industries, noting that coordination is underway among relevant authorities to improve production efficiency and strengthen the supply system to ensure sustainable sugar availability and food security.
The meeting reviewed the current status of sugar production from various sources, availability indicators, and efforts by relevant authorities to support the national industry. It confirmed that the strategic reserve of sugar, along with other strategic commodities, remains at safe levels and is sufficient for long periods.
The meeting also discussed supply prices for other strategic commodities. Madbouly stressed the importance of fully adhering to the payment of supply prices within the specified timeframes to maintain and strengthen strategic stocks as part of the state’s efforts to support food security.
