Egypt signs protocol to boost investment in oil, gas, mining

Egypt signed a cooperation protocol on Wednesday between the Ministries of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Investment and Foreign Trade to attract investment in the oil, gas and mining sectors, diversify financing mechanisms, and maximise returns on state-owned assets.
Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly witnessed the signing following the Cabinet meeting, as part of efforts to improve petroleum companies’ efficiency and competitiveness.
Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi said the protocol would promote investment opportunities, expand private-sector partnerships, and introduce innovative financing mechanisms to strengthen companies’ capabilities, improve asset management, and accelerate project implementation in Egypt and abroad.
The cooperation is also expected to support domestic production, reduce imports, and expand investment in exploration, production, refining, petrochemicals and manufacturing.
Badawi added that legislative reforms and investment incentives were enhancing the mining sector’s attractiveness, with a focus on mineral exploration, extraction and local processing to maximise the added value of Egypt’s natural resources.
Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid said the protocol aims to increase economic returns from the three sectors through modern investment and financing instruments that support company growth and generate added value for the Egyptian economy.
