Egypt approves new monthly performance incentive for healthcare professionals

Egypt has approved a monthly performance incentive of 750 Egyptian pounds ($13.9665) for eligible healthcare professionals working at public health facilities and university hospitals, under a decision issued by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Wednesday.

The decision, approved by the Cabinet, applies to healthcare professionals covered by Law No. 14 of 2014 regulating the employment conditions of medical staff at entities affiliated with the Ministry of Health and Population who are not subject to separate laws or regulations.

It also covers eligible employees at university hospitals, university medical departments, and student hospitals who are subject to Chapter Five of the same law.

Under the decision, eligible healthcare professionals will receive a fixed monthly performance incentive of 750 pounds. Eligibility and the amount paid will be determined according to performance assessments that take into account actual attendance and the efforts made in carrying out duties.

Employees scoring at least 90 per cent in their performance assessments will receive the full incentive. Those scoring from 70 per cent to less than 90 per cent will receive 85 per cent of the amount. Those scoring from 50 per cent to less than 70 per cent will receive 50 per cent. Employees scoring below 50 per cent will not qualify for the incentive.

The decision also provides for additional bonuses for extraordinary efforts during night and overnight shifts, depending on operational requirements.

The additional payments cover consultants and equivalent positions, specialists, assistant specialists, resident doctors, assigned physicians, pharmacists, nursing specialists, health and applied sciences technology specialists, nursing technicians, and health technicians.

The new financial benefits will not affect other incentives and extraordinary-effort payments provided for under Law No. 14 of 2014, its amendments and executive regulations.
