Army To Build Emergency Hospital Due To High Traffic Accident Rate: Officer

The head of the Egyptian army’s Reinforcement and Supplies Authority announced on Friday plans for the establishment of a military hospital specialised in emergencies and critical injuries, reported the Aswat Masriya website.

Major General Abdel-Mourdi Gharib said the plans come as part of the army’s efforts to make available medical services throughout Egypt and mentioned in a medical conference on Friday Egypt’s high accident rate.

Egypt, that has the Middle East’s greatest number of road accidents, loses around 12,000 lives to car accidents each year, according to a report by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Gharib said the construction of the new hospital will be completed in record speed due to the importance of emergency medicine.

Two road accidents this month led to the death of 28, over half of whom were school students. Egypt’s government laid down harsher punishments for traffic violations in response and formed a committee to look into Egypt’s chronic traffic problems.
