A supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood sustained an injury after clashes between protesters and police in Kafr El-Sheikh on Friday, and is currently being hospitalised, according to local police officer.
The police officer’s statement, reported by Al-Ahram’s Arabic news website, comes after unconfirmed reports that a protester was killed in the Nile Delta provinc during the clashes.
The officer said the 33-year-old man was transferred to Baltim Central Hospital after sustaining injuries from “rubber” birdshot pellets, according to Al-Ahram.
Regular Friday demonstrations have taken place since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013, although numbers have dwindled in the face of a fierce government crackdown on protesting and on the Muslim Brotherhood group, which was outlawed in 2013.
Two weeks ago, a 42-year-old Egyptian was killed during similar Islamist protests in Cairo.
