Funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Cairo, H.E. Mrs. Susan Blankhart, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Egypt, and Mr. Ahmed Aly Ahmed, Governor of Fayoum, opened yesterday an extension of the Beautiful Oasis day-care center for children with disabilities in Fayoum.
“I am impressed by the dedication of the staff of Beautiful Oasis for these children and their care of the children’s welfare,” said Ms. Blankhart.
Beautiful Oasis was established in November 2004 in Fayoum. Its first and most important aim is to give a contribution to children with disabilities and their families, in addition to local development.
In the center, children are learning skills that enhance their ability to participate more actively in social life. When the families of disabled children discover that their child is able to learn certain skills and enjoys learning and practicing those skills, it has a strong positive effect on society.
Susan Blankhart pointed out that the activities of the Beautiful Oasis have an impact on the community as a whole. “I am proud our Embassy could contribute to their activities,” she added.
At the moment the center serves children from 4 to 13 years old and teenagers from 14 years onwards. Children from 4 to 13 years old are taught different skills such as: motor and cognitive skills, speech, self-care and social development. Where possible, older children learn to perform agricultural tasks as well.
