Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met with the former Lebanese prime minister and leader of the liberal Future Movement in Lebanon Saad Hariri on Sunday in Cairo.
In the meeting they discussed the current situation in Syria and the challenges facing the region, an Egyptian presidential statement said.
Both parties shared the same view in regards to the solution of the Syrian crisis, advocating for a political solution. Sisi stressed that the top priority now is to protect the Syrian state without aligning with any party, the presidency said.
However, Sisi also emphasised the importance of Arab support for the moderate Syrian opposition.
Sisi and Hariri agreed on the necessity of drafting a regional cooperation strategy to counter-terrorism and halt any support provided to terrorist organisations and groups, according to the statement.
Meanwhile, Hariri stressed his country’s support and solidarity with Egypt and offered his condolences to the Egyptian citizens who were victims of terrorist attacks.
Saad Hariri was Lebanon’s Prime Minister from 2009 to 2011. He is also the son of Rafic Hariri, the former Lebanese prime minister who was assassinated in 2005.
