Egypt starts Trial Run for a New Solar Energy Plant

A solar energy plant in Sadat City, 94 kilometres (58 miles) north-west of Cairo, has started first trial operation with 65-kilowatt capacity, Ministry of Housing Moustafa Madbouli announced Monday. The plant is with cost of 1,548 million Egyptian pounds (US$191,499).

This comes as part of the government’s plan to activate the use of sustainable energy and rationalize the use of energy, Madbouli stated. New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) is currently executing this plan to find solutions related to energy efficiency and to rely on new and renewable energies.

On other Side, NUCA’s vice president Kamal Fahmy said the authority’s Central Unit for Sustainable Cities and Renewable Energy has coordinated with Sadat City Development Authority to construct the first solar energy plant in the city.

Fahmy further stated that a solar power unit has been established on the roof of city’s development authority with the capacity of 65 kilowatts encompassing 264 cells; 250watt/cell.
