Egypt Cabinet gives nod to UAE, Chinese bids to upgrade power stations

Egyptian government approved Tuesday two offers from UAE and Chinese firms to upgrade power stations in Egypt.

Prime Minister Sherif Ismail held meeting Tuesday to discuss the two offers with Ministers of Planning, Finance, Supply, Social Solidarity, Electricity, Investment, Tourism, Agriculture, International Cooperation, Communications, Petroleum, as well as Trade and Industry.

The first offer, obtained the government approval, is submitted by the State Grid Corporation of China, the largest electric utility company in the world. The State Grid has proposed to develop an electricity transfer network in Egypt.

Meanwhile, the second offered was from the ATD Combustors Company, a UAE supported organization focused on the development of state-of-the-art clean technology for power generation. ATD proposed to upgrade Egypt’s Walidia thermal power station.
