Egypt’s anticipated Dabaa nuclear power plant does not locate in any earthquake danger zone and is safe from any threats, according to the chairman of the state-run Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (NRRA).
Mohamed Reda further said Saturday that the Russian experts have agreed that Dabaa is the best location where the plant could be built.
Egypt chose Russia since it owns “the best peaceful nuclear technology for implementing power plants”, the chairman stated.
In November 19, Egypt and Russia have signed the first Egyptian nuclear plant deal.
According to Sergey Kiriyenko-the head of Russia’s state-owned nuclear firm Rosatomalong-, the plant will make Egypt the regional leader in the field of nuclear technologies and the only country in the region that will have a generation 3+ plant.
The plant, expected to be constructed within 12 years, will consist of four nuclear power units, 1,200 megawatt (MW) each.
