Army Opens 61 New Outlets For Consumer Commodities Nationwide

The armed forces opened 61 additional mobile outlets for basic commodities in major streets and squares, according to a statement by the Armed Forces’ Department of Moral Affairs Wednesday.

This comes as part of the army’s efforts to combat the high prices in the market, the statement said.

According to the statement, the new outlets are distributed as follows: 19 outlets in Cairo, 13 in Giza, seven in Qalyubia, four in Gharbeya, and three outlets in each of Sharqeya, Menufia, Beheira, and Beni Suef, with two in Minya, and one in each of New Valley, Assiut, Sohag, and Qena.

The Ministry of Defence said this step was made in response to the instructions of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. It aims to balance out the prices in the market, which have witnessed inflation waves and are subject to monopolistic practices by some merchants.

The armed forces offer the basic commodities to citizens with equipped trucks to sell the National Service Products Organisation’s products, such as meats and dairies, at their cost price.

The ministry highlighted the importance of increasing the number of outlets to face the increasing demand of citizens on complexes and outlets affiliated to the armed forces so they can purchase their food and supply commodities.
