The US and Canadian embassies in Cairo issued a security warning on Friday urging their citizens in Cairo to avoid any gatherings and public spaces over the weekend, October 7-9.
Both embassies strongly advised their citizens “to avoid large gatherings and public spaces such as concert halls, movie theaters, museums, shopping malls, and sports venues in Cairo through Sunday, October 9, due to potential security concerns.”
The statements did not specify the reason for security concerns behind the warning.
Over the past 5 years, foreign embassies have usually issued similar warnings related to planned mass protests in Egypt.
