BlackBerry services in the UAE have been disrupted due to technical glitches.
“I have not been able to download any emails since [Saturday] afternoon and my Internet services seem to be taking ages,” said a BlackBerry user who lives and works in Dubai.
“There doesn’t seem to be a problem with voice calls, though,” she added.
Some users also reported random ‘hanging’ of their devices while some others complained of uncalled for reboots of the device.
According to UAE service provider du, the glitches are due to global issues being faced by Research-in-Motion (RIM), the manufacturer of BlackBerry.
“We would like to inform our BlackBerry users that they might have experienced degradation in their BlackBerry services due technical challenges as reported by RIM, the manufacturer of Blackberry,” du said in a statement sent to Emirates 24/7.
“Degradation might include delays in sending or receiving messages or using other services such as BlackBerry Messenger,” the du statement added.
“Customers may also be unable to create new accounts, add (integrate) third-party email accounts, or use BlackBerry subscriber websites. BlackBerry Enterprise Servers may be unable to connect to the BlackBerry Infrastructure. Wireless service providers and device resellers may experience delays in using BlackBerry administration websites, creating subscriber accounts, or provisioning services for subscribers,” du said.according to zawya.
A similar disruption was reported last week in India on one particular network when the services of Bharti Airtel on BlackBerry devices were paralysed in North India due to technical glitches. The regions affected included Delhi, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
“Our technical team is working closely with RIM to resolve the matter as soon as possible,” du said of the service disruption in the UAE, and added that it will keep its customers posted on the developments.
