Abdeen Palace hosts Ramadan Iftar

Egypt’s 160 year old Abdeen Palace hosted its first Ramadan dining experience under the name Mawlay, as the event runs from the 29 March to 13 April offering Iftar and Sohour meals in the palace’s dining hall alongside a live band.

The booking costs 1,800 Egyptian pounds per person, and a separate palace tour can be booked. The Mawlay event takes place every year during Ramadan in Egypt’s most recognised cultural sites.

The event was launched in 2021 in the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation alongside the Egyptian Mummies exhibition. In 2022, the Iftar and Sohour were hosted at the Salah Al-Din Citadel.

Abdeen Palace was built in 1863 by Khedive Ismail to serve as the governmental headquarter and the royal family’s living space until 1952. Mawlay event is considered the first commercial dining experience to be open for the public in the Royal Palace.
