Agricultural crops exports to hit $2.4b by August 2017: Egypt’s Council

The Egyptian Agricultural Export Council targets raising exports by 5 percent to reach US$2.4 billion by the end of August 2017.

Chairman Abdel Hamid Demerdash told Amwal Al Ghad Sunday that the council achieved a 5 percent growth in exports value and 4 percent in amounts by the end of August 2016.

During fiscal year 2015-16, exports of agricultural crops sector reached US$2.3 billion, i.e. 3.7 million tonnes, compared to US$2.1 billion in FY 2014-15, i.e. 3.5 million tonnes.

Egypt is currently exporting agricultural crops to 80-90 states through 2,200 exporters, the head said.

Moreover, Demerdash clarified that the Arab states seize 45-50 percent of sector’s total exports notably Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Kuwait, followed by EU states that got 30 percent of the total exports.
