Alexandria Port handles record 82 million tons of cargo in FY 2025/2026

Alexandria Port Authority achieved its highest-ever cargo handling volume during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, with total handled cargo exceeding 82 million tons, compared with 74.8 million tonnes in FY 2024/2025, marking a 10 per cent increase.

Dry bulk cargo recorded the highest growth, rising 19.3 per cent to 36.5 million tons from 30.6 million tons in the previous fiscal year. Containerised cargo handling increased to around 28.3 million tons from 25.5 million tons, a growth rate of 11 per cent, while liquid bulk cargo reached 10.3 million tons, up 1 per cent.

The port recorded 2.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), achieving a 13 per cent increase compared with the previous fiscal year.

Alexandria Port Authority also recorded unprecedented vessel traffic during FY 2025/2026, receiving 7,026 vessels.

Tourist vessels recorded the highest growth among maritime activities, increasing by nearly 54 per cent compared with the previous year. Ferry traffic rose by 25.7 per cent, while dry bulk vessels increased by 21.5 per cent to 1,605 vessels, up by 284 vessels year-on-year (YoY).

Liquid bulk vessels increased by 11.8 per cent, while container ships reached 2,418 vessels, up 6.5 per cent.

Maritime tourism activity grew by more than 70 per cent, with the port receiving over 82,000 passengers during the year.
