Apple’s iOS 10 update briefly freezes some devices

Downloading Apple’s latest mobile operating system briefly forced some phones into recovery mode Tuesday.

The latest version of the company’s iPhone software, iOS 10, was launched on Tuesday, and some users soon took to Twitter saying that downloading it left their phone stuck in recovery mode, otherwise known as “bricking.”

“We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability,” said Apple in a statement. “The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers. Anyone who was affected should connect to iTunes to complete the update or contact AppleCare for help.”

The new operating system was expected to include updates revealed earlier this year, including big changes to Photos and Messages. In fact, CEO Tim Cook called iOS 10 “the mother of all releases.”
