Army Officer Shot In Egypt’s Sharqiyah

An Egyptian army officer suffered gunshot injuries to his neck after being attacked by unknown assailants in a drive-by shooting in the Nile Delta city of Belbis, Sharqiyah governorate, Al-Ahram’s Arabic news website has reported.

Unknown gunmen drove by the officer on a motorcycle, fired shots and then fled the scene.

The officer has been transferred to a military hospital in the Cairo district of Maadi and is reportedly in critical condition.

Investigations are underway.

Army and police personnel have been targeted in recurring militant attacks since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last July. Hundreds have since been killed.
