Banks’ Investments In T-Bills Hit EGP 263.8 Bln At End-Feb 2013: CBE

The volume of the Egyptian banking sector’s investments in treasury bills rose 2.6% (EGP 6.8 billion) to reach EGP 263.8 billion at the end of last February, compared to EGP 257.07 billion at the end of last January.

According to the Central Bank of Egypt’s last statistics, banks’ investments accounted for 67.5% of the total value of outstanding balances which reached EGP 390.7 billion.

The public-sector banks accounted for 51.8% (EGP 136.7 billion) and private-sector accounted for 41.7% (EGP 110.1 billion) of the total value of banks’ investments in T-bills at the end of last February.

The foreign banks accounted for 5.2% (EGP 13.6 billion) and specialized banks accounted for 1.3% (EGP 3.3 billion) of the total value of banks’ investments in T-bills at the end of last February.
