Bassem Youssef’s Father Reveals ‘El-Bernameg’ To Return In February

Egyptian political satirist Bassem Youssef will be back on the air on a private television channel in February, his father Judge Rafaat Youssef revealed on Friday.

The third series of hi popular show “El-Bernameg” (The Programme) on CBC channel was suspended earlier this year after just one episode.

The judge, who was speaking at a public forum event, was asked by attendees about his son’s plans. He did not say which channel will be hosting his son’s show.

The comedian has yet to comment on the news.

In an interview with ONTV early this month, Youssef said that he was in talks with German TV channel Deutsche Welle, along with other channels, both local and foreign. However, nothing can be settled, he said, until he determines if legalities with CBC will prevent him from appearing elsewhere.

His father on Friday said that Youssef’s contract with CBC was terminated primarily due to the channel’s interference in the content of his show.

Many critics put the termination of the contract down to Youssef’s mocking of supporters of the popular defence minister, General Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, during the first episode of the third season.
