BMW announced on Thursday plans to launch its first hydrogen-powered vehicle by 2028, using fuel cell technology developed in partnership with Toyota Motor Corp.
The new vehicle, an existing model with a hydrogen fuel cell drive option, aims to showcase advancements in sustainable mobility.
BMW has been a leading advocate of hydrogen technology among German automakers, having tested its iX5 Hydrogen with a range of 500 km (310 miles) and a quick refuel time of 3-4 minutes.
The partnership with Toyota will help both companies reduce costs and develop hydrogen-powered drive units for both passenger and commercial vehicles.
BMW expects hydrogen infrastructure to expand significantly by 2028, supporting the rollout of its hydrogen vehicles.
