Breaking: an explosion in Turkey kills at least one, leaves 14 injured

At least one person has died and 14 were injured by an explosion near the main police station in the Turkish city of Gaziantep, officials say.

The blast hit the southern city, 10km (six miles) from the Syrian border, at about 09:30 local time (06:30 GMT).

CNN Turk reported that the blast was heard several kilometres away.

Turkey has been hit by a series of deadly blasts over the past year, linked either to Kurdish militants or the so-called Islamic State (IS).

At least nine of those injured in Gaziantep were police officers, Turkey’s Anadolu Agency reported.

A police station in the city was also struck by a deadly explosion in February 2012.
