C. Bank of Egypt Says Securities Portfolio Hit EGP 653.8 bln by June-End

 The securities portfolio held by local banks surged by 2.7% (EGP 17.6 billion) within the last June recording EGP 653.8 billion , in compared to EGP 636.2 billion at the end of May 2013.

The local-currencies investment seized 87.3% from the total securities portfolio of banks registering EGP 571.2 billion at the end of June, according to the central bank of Egypt’s (CBE) statements.

The public-sector captured 93.8% (EGP 536.1 billion) from the total portfolio but the private-sector ranked second with 6% (EGP 34.4 billion), and the public- business sector accounted for EGP 505 million.

While the foreign-currency investment accounted for the remainder of the total portfolio, amounting to 12.7% registered 82.6 billion pounds by the end of the same period.
