Cairo bourse ends lower following Eid al-Adha holidays

Egyptian stock market closed lower on Wednesday in thin trade following a three-day Eid al-Adha holidays.

Main index, EGX30 tumbled 0.68 percent, to 8132.75 points.

Other indices; EGX50 EWI index also went down 0.28 percent, to 1366.44 points; EGX20 dropped 0.72 percent, to 8127.51 points.

Mid- and small-cap index EGX70 rose 0.29 percent, to 358.3 points. Price index, EGX100 inched lower 0.10 percent, to 816.06 points.

Market Cap

Market capitalisation incurred losses 2.46 Egyptian pounds ($280 million), to record 417.900 billion pounds during the closing session of Wednesday.

Turnovers

The bourse’s trading volume reached 63.134 million securities, with turnovers, closing at 232.675 million pounds, exchanged through 8,421 transactions.

Also during the closing session, 140 listed securities have been traded in, 60 declined, 27 advanced; while 51 kept their previous levels.

Investors’ Activities

Local investors were net sellers capturing 69.72 percent of the total market, with a net equity of 16.079 million pounds, excluding the deals.

On the contrary, non-Arab foreign and Arab investors were net buyers controlling 25.25 and 5.02 percent respectively of the total markets, with a net equity of 12.266 million pounds and 3.813 million pounds, respectively, excluding the deals.
