Cairo Chamber Warns Govt On Importing Shoddy Commodities, Demands Food Safety

Due to the absence of control on the imports of foodstuffs, the Food Division at Cairo Chamber of Commerce has called on the Egyptian government to bear the responsibility of supervising the imports of the foodstuffs to protect the consumer’s right.

Amr Asfour, Vice-President of the Food Division, has sharply criticized the government because of importing shoddy foodstuffs many times that can harm the citizens, saying, “The safety and people’s health became not the prime priorities of the government”

He indicated that the law that regulated for the food safety is supposed to be announced in 2013, adding that the traders need more awareness about the law and the general principles for the food safety standards.
