Cairo Governorate To Operate 3 New Lines To Improve Mass Transit

Egypt’s Cairo governorate will operate next week three new lines in Badr City, Al Obour City and Al Shorouk, in the framework of the governorate’s plan to develop the lines of the mass transit and stimulate the companies as well.

A reliable source in Cairo governorate asserted that the lines would be operated via three phases, the first line is “Badr-AlAbassiya” will be operated next Saturday; the second line is “Al Shorouk- Sariya Al Qobba” that will be operated on Monday, while the third line “Al Obour-Roksy” would be operated on Wednesday.

The source mentioned that the lines would be operated by the English company “ARM, after supplying each line with five buses as a start to operate them.

Most of the private companies withdrew from the venture of the mass transit except the “ABC” company, which is working currently on the line “Al Merg-Al Shorouk” and takes in as to 15 buses. But the company is about to withdraw from the venture, the source said, due to hitting exorbitant losses like the other companies as the passenger tarrif is low.

The governorate is working towards stimulating the companies again in order to enter the venture, said the source, adding that since months the governorate merged the venture of the new cities, which was serving five cities (New Cairo-Al Obour-Al Shorouk-Badr – 15th May) with the Cairo venture.
