Canadian wildfires prompt air quality alerts in U.S.

Smoke of wildfires in Canada have drifted into the United States, prompting several states to issue air quality alerts.

The states of Colorado and Montana issued air quality alerts for Saturday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. However, the state of Utah has also urged its citizens to avoid outdoor activities in areas with visible smoke.

“People with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should avoid prolonged or heavy exertion; everyone else should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion,” Colorado’s Department of Public Health and Environment advised.

The Canadian state of Alberta has declared a state of emergency on Tuesday amid a harsh season of wildfires.
