CBE: External Debt Per Capita Stood At US$ 379 In Q3

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said the external debt per capita registered US$ 378.8 (=EGP 2292) at the end of Q3 of FY 2011/2012, after the volume of external debt retreated by US$ 270.6 million, or 0.8%, registering US$ 33.4 billion, down from US$ 33.6 billion at the end of Q2.

The external debt burden service rose by US$ 675 million, amounting to US$ 1.008 billion at the end of Q3, up from US$ 333 million at the end of Q2, according to CBE’s latest report.

The report showed that the ratio of external debt to GDP retreated to 12.8% as a result of the decline of the volume of external debt. The ratio of short-term external debt to total debt registered 8.9%.

CBE said earlier last July that Egypt’s population reached 87.1 million people; of which 80.4 million are living inside the country and 6.7 million are living outside the country.
