CBE’s Decision to Stop Gamayah Won’t Affect Mobile Payment Service

Senior sources in Mobile Phone operators asserted that the decision of Central bank of Egypt to stop some products including ‘Gamayah’ which has recently launched by Vodafone Egypt will not affect on mobile payment service in general.

The number of mobile payment’s subscribers are around 500.000 distributing among the 3 operators, sources added.

The Egyptian Information and Communication Technology (ICT)  Ministry launched mobile payment service in April 2013 and Mobile operators have actually operated the service after 2 months from the date of launch.

In a statements to Amwal Al Ghad, the 3 operators explained their target to develop the offered products so as to meet with the customers’ needs.

Vodafone Egypt cooperates with Housing and Development bank (HDB) and Mobinil and BNP Paribas cooperate, in addition Etisalat Egypt and NBE to provide the service.

Moreover, 3 operators contracted with Fawry Electronic Payment service throughout payment points to charge mobile users’ portfolio.
