China vows to treat foreign firms same way as national peers

China pledged to treat foreign companies the same way as domestic peers to attract more foreign investment, co-operation and expertise, Reuters reported on Monday, citing Vice Commerce Minister Guo Tingting.

“China will fully guarantee national treatment for foreign companies, so that more foreign companies can invest in China with confidence and peace of mind,” Tingting said at the China Development Forum in Beijing.”
He further said China also aims to provide equal access to its market, address concerns of foreign investors, and enhance its industrial chains.

The country will open up high-level industries, protect foreign companies’ rights, and promote a multilateral trading system, Tingting added.

China also plans to deepen cooperation with foreign firms and encourage R&D centres. The move comes as China faces economic challenges and seeks high-quality growth in a new era.
