Collection of “Stamp duty” from mobile customers statring today

The three mobile companies in Egypt “Itisalat” ,”Vodafone”, and “Mobinil” have started today -1st of March 2012- , Thursday, the deduction of  stamp duty , which worth 51 Pts per month from prepaid customers.
Companies’ insiders said that – in statements of Thursday – the stamp duty which total amount is 6.10 EGP per year for every single subscriber outcome will be fully directed to the Egyptian Tax Authority without any deductions. The three mobile operators bore this tax earlier on behalf of their prepaid clients, but they adjusted their strategy to begin collecting the tax from the customers, on the same regard the Ministry of Finance denied the imposing of any new tax on mobile phone services, as MENA stated.

On the other hand, Egypt Telecom announced the extension of January’s bill payment period of land lines until next 15th of March, as this bill was scheduled to expire on February 29th, and the payment will not include any additional administrative fees additional, and this delay will happen to give the payment opportunity to customers who could not pay the bill because of vacations and holidays, which intersected the grace period.
