Communications Minister: Telecom Egypt’s Workers Have Legitimate Demands to Be Met Soon

Eng. Hani Mahmoud, Minister of Communications and Information Technology described the demands presented by Telecom Egypt’s employees yesterday in front of the cabinet’s headquarter as “legitimate.”

On the sidelines of the conference entitled Egyptian Engineering Day, Mahmoud added that the Ministry will cooperate with the administration of Telecom Egypt

to handle this issue, pointing out that the workers’ demands will be addressed with great attention. He described the workers saying “they care for the company’s interest.”

The Minister affirmed that he has conducted a meeting with the company’s administration and the workers last week to discuss their demands and the company’s future as an important governmental institutions, highlighting that the problems that Telecom Egypt is currently undergoing will affect its name in Egyptian and international stock markets.

On the other hand, Telecom Egypt’s employees have organized a protest yesterday, asking for for dismissing the board of directors, and restructuring the salaries of the second phase which include the managerial level.

The coalition of Telecom Egypt employees, the so-called Saving Telecom Egypt Group, Sons of Telecom Egypt, the company’s independent Association, and the Egyptian Trade Union Federation took part in today’s protest, pointing out to the need of combating corruption in the company.

The demands of the employees include expanding the health insurance to cover both the employees and their families, in addition to forming a judicial commission to look into the files of corruption in the company.
