Communications Ministry to Launch Digital Dictionary for Sign Language

The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology  has cooperated with the Ministry of Education to work together on updating a general dictionary for sign language, in order to help people with disabilities.The dictionary aims at generalizing the language used in communication between people with hearing disability by converting the written texts provided in the dictionary into  electronic digital texts. This dictionary will be available on CDs or can be accessed via the website of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

The Ministry of Education will document the dictionary through a committee including a number of officials at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, experts in that field, in addition to some hearing impaired people, in order to ensure the efficiency of the dictionary.

Moreover, the Ministry is currently considering providing support for 99 schools for the deaf and dumb, in addition supporting the centers in 19 governmental universities that aim at helping people with disabilities.
