East Asian states imports to Egypt grew 13.9% in 2015: CAPMAS

The total volume of Egypt’s imports from East Asian states rose by 13.9 percent in 2015 to 151.6 billion Egyptian pounds (US$8.5 billion) from 133.2 billion pounds in 2014.

Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) released Sunday a report about state’s trade exchange -including exports and imports volume- with Malaysia, China, India, Japan, Indonesia, Pakistan, and South Korea.

According to the report, China was Egypt’s  largest importer in 2015 whose imports increased 25.6 percent to 74.8 billion pounds opposed to 59.6 billion pounds in 2014.

Egypt’s imports from China included  electrical equipment, machinery, mechanical appliances and spare parts.

Following China, India was Egypt’s largest importer during 2015 with imports estimated at 17.9 billion pounds versus 18.1 billion pounds a year earlier, making a 1.0 percent decline.

On the other hand, Egypt’s exports to East Asian states hit 15.5 billion pounds in 2015 opposed to 24.7 billion pounds in 2014, registering a 37.1 percent drop due to the decline in global oil prices, the report noted.

India was the largest state to which Egypt exported during 2015, the report noted, showing that Egyptian exports to India recorded 6.9 billion pounds versus 13.7 billion pounds in 2014, dropping by 50.1 percent.

Moreover, the report stated that Egypt’s exports to Japan decreased by 62.5 percent in 2015 to 1.0 billion pounds compared to 2.6 billion pounds in 2014.
