East Port Said’s transit traffic rises 41.1% in 2025/26

Transit container traffic at Egypt’s East Port Said rose 41.1% in the 2025/26 fiscal year to 5.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), accounting for 93.2% of the port’s total traffic, the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) said on Thursday.

The port handled 5.9 million TEUs in total during the year, up from 3.86 million transit TEUs in the previous fiscal year, SCZONE said in a statement.

SCZONE Chairman Moustafa Shaikhon said the increase highlighted the role of East Port Said as a major regional hub for container transit.

Shaikhon made the remarks during his first inspection tour of SCZONE’s Northern Zone since taking office in August, where he reviewed development work at the port and met with employees.
