Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawi inspected progress on equipping the Energos Power regasification vessel at the Tahya Misr pier in Alexandria as part of the ministry’s preparations to meet rising domestic gas demand during the summer season.
The vessel is being readied for relocation to Ain Sokhna Port, where it will be connected to its designated berth. The initiative is part of the ministry’s broader plan to boost the flexibility of the national gas network by deploying advanced regasification units capable of receiving, converting, and injecting imported LNG directly into the grid.
Badawi assessed the vessel’s technical preparations and praised the 24/7 work of engineering teams committed to completing the project on schedule while adhering to international safety and operational standards.
He also confirmed the availability of necessary materials and equipment for the project, led by Petrojet in coordination with ENPPI and GASCO.
Badawi highlighted that Egypt now has three regasification vessels in its energy infrastructure: Hoegh Galleon—already stationed at SUMED Port in Ain Sokhna; Energos Eskimo, currently in final preparations; and Energos Power. Once both Energos vessels are operational at Ain Sokhna, they will significantly enhance Egypt’s capacity to respond to peak demand periods and diversify its energy import routes amid global market uncertainties.
“The new regasification units are a strategic step that will ensure supply stability and reinforce the resilience of Egypt’s gas system during the critical summer period,” Badawi said.
