Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity announced the disbursement of cash support to 4.7 million families under its Solidarity and Dignity (Takaful and Karama) and social security programmes, amounting to a total of 41 billion Egyptian pounds annually.
Child pensions totalling 13.003 million pounds were also provided to 29,724 children, with an additional 65.021 million pounds disbursed between July and November 2024, according to the ministry’s report.
The ministry emphasised that all beneficiaries are enrolled in comprehensive health insurance, non-resident healthcare services, and state-funded medical treatments, with plans underway to include them in the national health insurance system.
The report noted that 93 per cent of cash support recipients benefit from food subsidies, while 76,000 beneficiaries participate in the first 1,000 Days of a Child’s Life programme.
Additionally, 2.2 million women engage in reproductive health initiatives, and 2 million recipients are enrolled in literacy programmes.
In-kind aid efforts included distributing food packages worth 2.160 million pounds to 18,000 families and meat to 308,000 families at a cost of 69.600 million pounds. Cash and in-kind assistance totalling 9768 million pounds reached over 14.254 million beneficiaries.
Housing initiatives saw the furnishing of 14 housing units for orphans and 250 units for Warraq Island residents. In addition, 79 graduates of care institutions and 25 families in Ismailia received housing under Bedaya – A New Beginning for Human Building Initiative.
For disaster relief, the ministry provided 53.171 million pounds to 2,336 affected families. Compensation for victims of public disasters was increased to 200,000 pounds per individual. International relief efforts extended 6.200 million pounds to Arab and African countries impacted by crises.
