Egypt, Australia discuss strengthening cooperation in food safety

Egypt’s National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) Chairman, Tarek El-Houby, met with Australian Ambassador to Egypt, Neil Hawkins, and discussed ways to improve food safety cooperation between the two nations, as per a Cabinet statement.

They emphasised the authority’s crucial role in monitoring food safety, inspecting imported and exported food at ports, and issuing certifications. They also highlighted the NFSA’s efforts in updating food laws and enforcing regulations for consumer protection.

During the discussions, Hawkins praised the NFSA’s vital role in monitoring food safety standards in Egypt and facilitating smoother trade for exporters and importers. He also commended Egypt’s leadership in opening new markets for its food exports.

The ambassador expressed Australia’s interest in deepening collaboration through knowledge exchange, training programmes, and workshops involving Australian food safety experts, the statement added.
