Egypt, Chevron discuss Aphrodite gas field link

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, discussed on Wednesday with Chevron’s President of Base Assets and Emerging Countries (BAEC), Javier La Rosa, accelerating agreements to connect Cyprus’ Aphrodite gas field to Egypt’s infrastructure.

During a video conference, the two sides reviewed Chevron’s activities in Egypt and discussed opportunities to expand natural gas exploration in the Mediterranean, particularly in the Western Mediterranean.

Badawi stressed the need to accelerate the procedures and agreements required to connect Aphrodite to Egypt’s infrastructure and finalise the related technical, financial and commercial frameworks and timelines.

He said Egypt-Cyprus gas cooperation has high-level political support, which provides momentum for completing the technical and commercial tracks of the project.

The meeting also covered plans to expand Chevron’s exploration and production activities in Egypt, including intensified drilling and exploration to support discoveries and increase production.
