Egypt constructing 25 Silos with $300mn Emirati Grant

Egypt’s Ministry of Supply and Domestic Trade is currently building up 25 silos with an Emirati grant estimated at US$300 million, minister Khaled Hanafy announced on Wednesday.

The 25 silos are scheduled to be finished within 16 months providing new storage capacity estimated at 1.5 million tonnes; 60.000 tonnes for each silo.

The minister also noted that the ministry is currently increasing its preparations to receive local wheat shipments from farmers and traders, within the next season starting mid-April, for EGP 420 for ardeb to guarantee receiving good wheat.

Hanafy affirmed that Egypt is currently executing the national project to develop 105 warehousing yards and convert them to be modern to store and classify wheat in order to receive the new wheat crop. Those new modern warehousing are being executing in 79 locations in 20 governorates.

Moreover, Italy would finance the construction of 10 modern warehousing yards, a silo for wheat and grains, and two logistic areas in 8 governorates with US$45 million under the debt swap program.
