Egypt denies reports of new power cuts, calls document ‘fabricated’

Egypt’s Cabinet Media Centre on Saturday denied reports of new electricity load-shedding measures, saying a widely circulated document outlining additional energy-saving steps is “fabricated.”

The centre said the document, which it stressed was not issued by any official authority, falsely claimed that daily power cuts of three to four hours would be imposed nationwide starting in May, alongside a requirement for shops to close at 10:00 p.m.

It added that no new decisions have been made regarding energy consumption rationalisation beyond measures already in place, describing the claims as rumours intended to confuse the public.

The Cabinet Media Centre urged citizens to disregard misleading information shared on social media and rely on official sources for updates.
