Egypt, Deutsche Bahn sign initial deal to operate electric train system

Egyptian Ministry of Transportation has signed on Tuesday the main contract document for the management and operation of the high-speed electric train system with National Authority for Tunnels (NAT), German Deutsche Bahn and El Sewedy Electric.

The cooperation will include operating the three lines of the high-speed electric train network with a total length of 2000 km, according to ministry’s statement.

The agreement preambles for the final contract with Deutsche Bahn to manage and operate the network for 15 years and can renew for another 15 years, with a total contract period of 30 years.

The company will also provide trainings for Egyptian engineers and technicians as 90% of the human resources in the company are Egyptians, which considers an important factor in the partnership system between the two sides.

Deutsche Bahn is one of the world’s leading company in railway operation and maintenance field, which operates all German railways with a total length of 34 thousand km.
