Egypt extremely concerned about Yemen escalation after ex-President Saleh’s killing

Egypt expresses extreme concerns about the unfortunate current developments taking place in Yemen, which led to the killing of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh by Houthi rebels earlier Monday, the Egyptian foreign ministry has announced.

According to the statement, the killing of Saleh at the hands of Iranian-backed Houthi rebels would only escalate the current spilt and tensions in Yemen.

The Egyptian foreign ministry considers these developments to be a reflection of the crisis Yemen has been suffering from for years as a result of “negative foreign interference.”

The ministry also renewed Egypt’s position on the conflict in Yemen, calling all parties involved to be committed to a political solution in the war-torn country according to UN security council resolution 2216, as well as the 2013-14 National Dialogue Conference and the Gulf Initiative.
