Egypt, France join forces against monopolistic practices

The Egyptian Competition Authority’s (ECA) head Mahmoud Momtaz met with the French Ambassador Eric Chevallier to discuss enhancing cooperation in protecting competition and combating monopolistic practices.

Discussions covered the ECA’s 2021-2025 strategy and its key objectives, along with Egypt’s national strategy to support competition policies and competitive neutrality, according to a Cabinet’s statement.

The meeting discussed Egypt’s efforts to protect competition and improve the investment climate, including pre-merger-and-acquisition control to support competition policies and boost economic indicators.

The discussions also addressed the role of the UNCTAD Centre for Competition Training for the Middle East and Africa, based at the ECA, in promoting competition policies in the region, the statement added.

Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the coming period, including holding further meetings and seminars with representatives of French companies operating in the Egyptian market.
