Egypt, France sign education grant deals on French teaching, technical schools
Egypt signed a grant agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD) on Wednesday to support the teaching of French as a second foreign language in public schools.
The two sides also signed two letters of intent to set up two schools in cooperation with Egypt’s transport and education ministries. One will be located at the Wardan Railway Institute, while the second will be developed in partnership with French public transport operator RATP Group.
The two projects aim to modernise Egypt’s technical and vocational education system and help prepare skilled workers to meet labour market needs.
The education accords formed part of a wider package of eight cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding signed in Cairo between Egyptian ministries, AFD, the European Union, and several French companies, according to Egypt’s foreign ministry.
