Egypt furniture exports hit $230mn end August 2015

Egypt’s furniture exports have been increased 6 percent at the end of August 2015, recording 1.8 billion Egyptian pounds (US$229.7 million) versus 1.7 billion pounds at the same period of 2014.

According to the report issued by the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) Thursday, furniture exports have been boosted 5% in August 2015 to reach 215 million pounds opposed to 204 million pounds in August 2014.

The report stated that wooden furniture has topped the list of the most exported products at the end of August 2015 with exports worth 1.6 billion pounds followed by wood stuff whose exports are estimated at 73.3 million pounds, metal furniture with exports worth 60.5 million pounds and wood products with exports estimated at 14.3 million pounds.

During the first eight months of 2015, the exports of hinges and fixtures have recorded 3.6 million pounds while the exports of plastic furniture have reached 1.6 million pounds, the report clarified.

Furthermore, the exports of cork products hit 1.2 million pounds while bamboo furniture exports had not exceeded around 10,000 thousands.

Moreover, the report added that Saudi Arabia was the largest importing state for the Egyptian furniture with imports worth 659 million pounds followed by UAE with imports estimated at 274 million pounds, Qatar with imports worth 144 million pounds, Iraq that imported Egyptian furniture worth 130 million pounds and Jordan whose imports of reached 113 million pounds.
